During the holidays we often overindulge in social gatherings that are filled with comfort foods, cocktails, and sweets galore.  By the end of December it\u2019s no surprise that many people start creating New Year\u2019s resolutions based on health and fitness goals as a means to reset.  As January 1 rolls in, we hit the ground running, but within a few weeks those resolutions are often forgotten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What if in 2022 you change your mindset from focusing on short term goals and instead look at the broader picture? What if 2022 was a \u201cNew Year\u201d and \u201cNew You\u201d from a different perspective?  It\u2019s been said that the key to happiness is to enjoy what you do and spend less than you make. There is some truth to that.  Therefore, what better way to jump start the new year than to focus on long term goals that will help you create your happiest healthiest self? Here are some ideas on ways that you can create your brighter future:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(1) Improve your credit rating \u2013 Did you happen to overspend during the holidays with credit card bills piling up?  Perhaps you took one too many trips that you didn\u2019t exactly budget for but couldn\u2019t resist?  Or maybe your rainy-day fund was depleted by a major repair or expense?  Credit gets impacted by various factors that we overlook when living our day-to-day lives.  Take a moment, log on to Credit Karma (www.creditkarma.com<\/a>) and review your current credit as well as use their tools on ways to reduce your debt and increase your credit. You\u2019ll sleep better at night knowing that you\u2019re in good financial standing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(2) Bring out the minimalist in you \u2013 Closets filled with clothes you haven\u2019t worn in ages?  Games missing pieces that you can\u2019t play?  Drawers piled with documents ready for the shredder?  Commit to going through one room at a time and toss out the old, the unused, the broken, the unnecessary \u201cstuff\u201d that is taking up space.  Clear space makes for a clear mind where you can focus your energy on your long term goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(3) Start a House Fund \u2013 If you have spent years renting, paying towards someone else\u2019s mortgage, why not take the steps towards owning your own home?  If you have never gone through the home buying process it can feel scary, overwhelming, and unattainable.  Owning a home is the American dream, and you too can be a homeowner.  Start by taking a look at your finances, monthly income, savings, and total expenses.  Once you have a clear picture of where you stand, reach out to a lender and let them evaluate your current status and steps you need to take to be in the position to buy.  Commit to investing in your future, you won\u2019t regret it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(4) Take on a new project \u2013 How many times do you tell yourself you want to get to \u201csomething\u201d? That room you\u2019ve been wanting to paint, that scrapbook you want to complete, that book you always wanted to write.  Projects are the perfect way to work with your hands, clear your mind, and organize your memories.  Pick one thing that you\u2019ve been putting off and just do it!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
